Improvement of cholesterol in hypercholesterolemia (primary, heterozygous familial) and dyslipidemia
This medication is a dietary supplement developed for patients with hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia. It primarily lowers total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels while raising HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is especially effective for pediatric patients aged 10 to 16 with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. It is used in children when the LDL cholesterol levels are above certain thresholds, there is a family history of early cardiovascular disease, or other risk factors are present. This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases as an adjunct to dietary therapy. Therefore, it is used to improve cholesterol management and enhance cardiovascular health.
For adults, the usual initial dose is 1–2 mg of Pitavastatin Calcium taken once daily. If the LDL cholesterol-lowering effect is insufficient, the dose may be increased up to a maximum of 4 mg per day. The dose should be adjusted appropriately at intervals of 4 weeks or more, and the therapeutic effect of this medication is maintained with continuous administration.
For pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10-16), 1 mg of Pitavastatin Calcium should be taken once daily. If the LDL cholesterol-lowering effect is insufficient, a maximum of 2 mg per day may be administered.
This medication should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to specific components or those with active liver disease or persistent liver function abnormalities. Patients with severe liver dysfunction or bile duct obstruction, those taking cyclosporine, patients with myopathy, pregnant women, or nursing mothers should also avoid using this drug. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should avoid taking it. Patients with kidney dysfunction, liver dysfunction, those who consume alcohol excessively, elderly patients, and children should use this medication with greater caution. This medication may cause side effects such as myalgia, muscle weakness, liver function abnormalities, and thrombocytopenia; thus, if any abnormal symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a physician is required. During administration, regular liver function tests and blood lipid assays should be conducted, and if there is no therapeutic effect, discontinuation of use should be considered. This medication may interact with other specific drugs, potentially leading to impaired kidney function or muscle damage, so consultation with a specialist is recommended when used concurrently. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this drug, and if pregnant, should immediately discontinue use and consult a doctor. In children, this medication should be administered cautiously under the guidance of a physician experienced in treating familial hypercholesterolemia, as safety in children under 10 years has not been established. Store out of reach of children and keep in the original container to prevent degradation of quality or misuse. This medication is used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, and non-pharmacological treatments such as dietary therapy and exercise should be considered first before administration. Rare cases of interstitial lung disease or increased risk of diabetes may occur with long-term use, so regular health monitoring is necessary. This medication requires caution regarding muscle-related adverse reactions, and if symptoms like myalgia or weakness occur, discontinuation of use should be immediate, followed by consultation with healthcare professionals.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
