Efficacy & effects

Improvement in blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes

  • Difficulty in blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes
View approved original text

This medication is used alongside diet and exercise therapy to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. For patients without prior experience in diabetes medication treatment and who find it difficult to control blood sugar alone, it can be taken in combination with Metformin. Additionally, when blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy using sulfonylureas, Metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin, this drug is used in combination. When it is difficult to control blood sugar with multiple medication combinations, this drug can be added to enhance therapeutic efficacy. It is used to improve blood sugar control tailored to various treatment situations.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, you should stop taking it immediately and consult a doctor. Also, severe pancreatitis, a serious inflammation of the pancreas, may occur, so if symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting, or decreased appetite appear during treatment, you should visit a hospital immediately. Patients with type 1 diabetes or those with specific allergic reactions should not take this medication. Patients with impaired kidney function may need dosage adjustments, and it is important to have regular kidney function tests both before and during treatment. This medication can be used alone or in combination with other diabetes treatments, and when combined, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia, so changes in blood sugar should be carefully monitored. During treatment with this drug, side effects such as headaches, upper respiratory infections, nasopharyngitis, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, muscle pain, limb pain, back pain, pruritus, thrombocytopenia, dizziness, indigestion, gastritis, weight loss, hypertension, hypernatremia, and erectile dysfunction may occur, so if symptoms are severe, you should consult a doctor. Severe joint pain or skin blistering may occur, so if these symptoms arise, treatment should be stopped immediately and a specialist should be consulted. It is recommended that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding do not take this medication, and safety in children and adolescents under 18 years of age has not been established. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function, so dosage adjustments and kidney function tests are even more important. In cases of overdose, general emergency treatment should be provided, and blood dialysis may be necessary to remove this medication if needed. There are relatively few drug interactions, but caution should be exercised when used with specific medications under a doctor's guidance.
