This drug is used as an adjunct to diet in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol, known as good cholesterol. In patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it is used alone or in combination with other lipid-lowering treatments to control cholesterol levels in the blood.
