Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes

  • Difficulty in controlling blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes
View approved original text

This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes in conjunction with diet and exercise. It can be administered alone and may also be used together with metformin when monotherapy is insufficient at the initiation of drug treatment. Additionally, it is combined with sulfonylureas, metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin when blood sugar control is difficult with monotherapy. This drug can also be used as an add-on therapy when blood sugar control is inadequate while on combination therapy. It effectively helps to control blood sugar by appropriately adjusting combinations based on the patient's condition. Therefore, this medication is very useful in improving blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

For patients with renal impairment, dose adjustments are necessary based on renal function. Mild and some moderate renal impairment patients do not require dose adjustments. Precautions

This medication can cause severe allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. During treatment with this medication, if symptoms of pancreatitis such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal pain occur, notify medical personnel immediately. This medication should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, nor in individuals who are allergic to this medication or its components. Patients with reduced renal function should have their dosage adjusted, and it is recommended to conduct regular kidney function tests. Patients may experience side effects such as cold symptoms, headache, indigestion, or diarrhea while taking this medication, and if symptoms are severe, consult a doctor. Caution is advised when taking this medication in conjunction with other hypoglycemic agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase; regular monitoring of blood glucose levels and dosage adjustment may be necessary. If symptoms of severe joint pain or skin blistering occur, discontinue this medication immediately and seek professional treatment.
