This medication helps patients with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar more effectively while following dietary and exercise regimens. It can be used alone when starting treatment, and if monotherapy is insufficient, it can be administered in combination with metformin. Additionally, it can be used as an adjunct when treatment with any one of sulfonylurea, metformin, thiazolidinedione, or insulin alone is insufficient. When combined with sulfonylurea and metformin, thiazolidinedione and metformin, or insulin and metformin, if blood sugar control is inadequate, this medication can also be combined to enhance treatment effectiveness. It is used for improving blood sugar control in various treatment situations.

How to take

Adult dose

Precautions

This medication may cause severe hypersensitivity reactions, so if allergic symptoms or skin abnormalities occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. If symptoms of pancreatitis, such as severe abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur while taking this medication, inform medical personnel immediately, and if pancreatitis is suspected, discontinue use of this drug. Patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis should not use this medication, and it should not be administered to individuals who are allergic to this drug or its components. Patients with impaired kidney function need to adjust their dosage, so regular kidney function tests should be conducted, and the medication should be taken according to a physician's instructions. This medication can cause hypoglycemia, so when used in combination with insulin or sulfonylurea, blood sugar levels should be carefully monitored, and dose adjustments for hypoglycemic agents may be necessary. Symptoms such as headache, upper respiratory infection, nasopharyngitis, diarrhea, etc., may occur during treatment; consult medical personnel if the symptoms persist or worsen. This medication can be used in the elderly, but dosage adjustments and kidney function tests are essential due to possible decreased kidney function. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid this medication, and safety and efficacy have not been established in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. In cases of overdose, it is necessary to remove the drug from the gastrointestinal tract and provide appropriate treatment and monitoring, such as an electrocardiogram; some may be removed by dialysis. If symptoms like joint pain, skin blisters, or rash occur during treatment, inform a doctor immediately, and if necessary, drug discontinuation and specialist evaluation may be required. Drug interactions are minimal, but caution is advised when taken with cyclosporine or digoxin, and consultation with a physician is recommended before taking them.
