  • Difficulty in blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes
View approved original text

This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be administered alone or in combination with diet and exercise therapy, and in patients who have not previously received diabetes medication therapy and find it difficult to control blood sugar with monotherapy, it can be given in combination with Metformin. Additionally, when adequate blood sugar control is not achieved with monotherapy of medications such as sulfonylureas, Metformin, thiazolidinediones, or insulin, this medication can be combined to control blood sugar levels. If blood sugar control remains challenging even with combination therapy, this medication may be added to assist in blood sugar management. It effectively manages blood sugar, aiding in the treatment of diabetes.

Precautions

This medication can rarely cause serious allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur after taking the medication, it should be stopped immediately and medical attention should be sought. Acute pancreatitis, a serious inflammation of the pancreas, may occur during treatment with this medication; if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea develop, consult a physician immediately. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, and should not be administered to those with a known allergy to this medication or its ingredients. Patients with reduced kidney function should have their dose adjusted, and regular kidney function tests should be performed under the supervision of a physician. During treatment, side effects such as upper respiratory tract infections, nasopharyngitis, headaches, diarrhea, nausea, etc. may occur, and hypoglycemic symptoms may also arise, thus careful blood sugar management is essential. When used in combination with other hypoglycemic agents such as insulin or sulfonylureas, the risk of hypoglycemia increases, and dosage adjustments of the other medications may be considered if necessary. If severe joint pain or skin blisters occur, consult a physician immediately, as the medication may need to be discontinued in such cases. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid using this medication, and safety in children under 18 has not been established. Elderly patients may have decreased kidney function, so regular kidney function tests are recommended during treatment, and dose adjustments may be necessary. In case of overdose, general supportive care should be provided, and blood dialysis may be used to remove some of the medication if needed. The potential for drug interactions with this medication is low, but it is important to consult a physician when taking other medications.
