This medication is used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and erosive reflux esophagitis, and it also assists in the long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It is also effective in alleviating the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis. It is used in combination with antibiotics for the treatment of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori infection, contributing to the prevention of recurrence. It is also used for the short-term treatment of upper gastrointestinal pain and discomfort related to the intake of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is effective for the treatment of gastric ulcers in patients requiring continuous non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug intake, and it is also used for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for the prevention and maintenance therapy of rebleeding from gastric and duodenal ulcers. Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis reaction/shock, jaundice, hepatitis, hepatic failure, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome), interstitial nephritis, rhabdomyolysis, arrhythmias (including ventricular fibrillation, Torsades de pointes), hypertension with associated systemic edema, severe.
