Recurrent herpes labialis is a blistering condition that occurs repeatedly around the lips. This medication quickly alleviates the initial symptoms of herpes labialis and promotes wound healing. Additionally, it helps reduce the frequency of recurrences by inhibiting viral replication. Thus, it should be used for early treatment to promptly improve symptoms.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Apply an appropriate amount that sufficiently covers the edges of the affected area 5 times daily for 5 days. Treatment should begin as soon as initial symptoms or signs appear.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals with certain infections, such as tuberculosis, syphilis, candidiasis, tinea, herpes zoster, chickenpox, scabies, or eczema. It should also be avoided by those who have hypersensitivity to this drug or have a history of such hypersensitivity. Patients with severely compromised immune systems, such as bone marrow transplant recipients or those with AIDS, should not use this medication. It should be avoided in patients with otitis externa who have eardrum perforations, as it may delay healing. Patients with ulcers, severe burns or frostbite, perioral dermatitis, common acne, rosacea, nursing mothers, individuals under 18 years of age, and those with a history of myocardial infarction should not use this medication. This drug should not be used on sensitive areas such as the eyes, nose, mouth, or genitals. While using this medication, it is advisable to avoid taking certain drugs, particularly systemic acyclovir. It is safe to refrain from breastfeeding during treatment, and it is recommended to avoid breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant must consult with a physician before using this medication, and elderly patients should be closely monitored due to a higher risk of side effects. This medication contains propylene glycol; those allergic to this ingredient should use it with caution. If any unusual reactions such as skin dryness, peeling, burning sensation, tingling, redness, pigmentation, or inflammation occur while using this medication, treatment should be stopped immediately and a specialist should be consulted. Long-term or extensive use may cause side effects such as skin atrophy, vasodilation, dermatitis, and acne, so caution is advised. Particularly if using occlusive dressings, be aware that systemic side effects may occur.
