It is also utilized for surface anesthesia of the genital mucosa, reducing pain during procedures such as the removal of condylomas. Surface anesthesia is performed before cleaning or superficial surgery on leg ulcers to alleviate discomfort. It is effective for surface anesthesia in various areas and helps to reduce pain for patients before procedures.

The sealing on the application area should be maintained for 1-3 hours, and at least 1 hour of effectiveness after removing the seal tape should be ensured. 1) For needle insertion (e.g., intravenous cannulation, blood sampling), apply about 2g of this medication for a minimum of 1 hour, maximum of 5 hours. 2) For superficial surgical minor procedures (e.g., excision of epidermoid cyst), apply 1.5-2g/10㎠ for 1 hour.

This medication is used as a local anesthetic and may cause a rare blood disorder known as methemoglobinemia. This condition reduces the blood's capacity to transport oxygen, leading to symptoms such as a bluish discoloration of the skin. Special caution is needed for patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital or idiopathic methemoglobinemia, those with heart or lung damage, infants under 6 months, and those using oxidizing agents, as they are more sensitive to this symptom. After using this medication, monitoring for symptoms and signs of methemoglobinemia is essential. This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to the components or amide-type local anesthetics, in areas with wounds or dermatitis, in infants under 3 months, and in infants under 12 months receiving medications that can cause methemoglobinemia, as well as in preterm infants born before 37 weeks of gestation. It should be used cautiously in patients with anemia, methemoglobinemia, or those taking related medications, frail or elderly patients, patients with acute conditions, severe liver disease, and those with allergies to propylene glycol, a component of this medication. Local reactions such as pallor, redness, swelling, itching, and burning may occur, and rare allergic reactions such as hives, angioedema, and bronchospasm may also occur. This medication should not be applied to the eyes or ears as it may cause irritation or toxicity. In case of overdose, symptoms may appear in the central nervous system or cardiac issues, and immediate treatment is necessary, with careful observation for several hours post-treatment. Caution is advised when using this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding as it may pass through the placenta and be excreted in breast milk. Its safety and efficacy in children, especially infants under 3 months, have not been adequately confirmed, thus usage in mucosal areas is not recommended. Additionally, the risk of methemoglobinemia may increase when used with certain other medications, so be cautious with drug combinations. Lastly, long-term high-dose use of this medication may increase the risk of cancer, so it is essential to strictly adhere to the recommended dosage and duration of use.
Allergic and anaphylactic reactions such as hives, angioedema, bronchospasm, shock, seizures, coma, arrhythmias, death, symptoms and signs of methemoglobinemia, central nervous system excitation symptoms, central nervous system depression
