This medication is used for the initial treatment of recurrent herpes labialis. Herpes labialis is a condition that causes blisters around the lips, and prompt initial treatment is vital for symptom relief and prevention of recurrence. This medication suppresses the activity of the virus, reducing inflammation and pain, and shortening the duration of treatment. Therefore, it is effective to take this medication immediately when the initial symptoms of recurrent herpes labialis appear. Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Apply an adequate amount to cover the edges of the affected area 5 times a day for 5 days.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients with certain infections caused by bacteria, fungi, or some viral skin infections. It should also not be used by individuals who are hypersensitive to this medication or have a history of such reactions. Patients with severely compromised immune systems, such as those undergoing bone marrow transplantation or with AIDS, should avoid using this medication. Patients with otitis externa who have a perforated tympanic membrane may experience delayed healing if this medication is used.
