This medication is used as a local anesthetic and may cause a rare blood disorder known as methemoglobinemia in certain patients. Patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital methemoglobinemia, heart or lung impairment, infants under 6 months old, and patients using oxidants are more sensitive to this condition, and caution is needed. While using this medication, it is essential to closely monitor for cyanosis of the skin or abnormal blood coloration, and if symptoms worsen, immediately discontinue administration and seek treatment. Additionally, this medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to it or on injured areas, mucous membranes, those with atopic dermatitis, infants under 3 months old, or infants under 12 months old who are taking specific medications, as well as premature infants. Patients with anemia or liver disease, frail or elderly patients, and those allergic to propylene glycol should use it cautiously. Local reactions such as pallor, erythema, edema, itching, and initial burning sensation may occur during use, and in rare cases, allergic reactions such as hives or difficulty breathing may also arise. Avoid using it near the eyes, as it may cause irritation; in case of contact with the eyes, wash thoroughly with clean water. This drug can interact with other medications, so extra caution is required when used with drugs that may induce methemoglobinemia. If pregnant or breastfeeding, it should be used only after consulting a physician, as it may cross the placenta or be excreted in breast milk. Caution is needed in children, especially infants under 3 months old, as safety and effectiveness have not been sufficiently confirmed, and it should not be used on genital mucosa.
