This medication is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is primarily helpful in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it is effective in reducing risk after vascular interventions or in patients with chronic stable angina. It also contributes to reducing the risk of non-fatal myocardial infarction, fatal and non-fatal stroke, angina, and hospitalization due to congestive heart failure in patients already with coronary heart disease. Moreover, it is used to lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and to increase HDL cholesterol levels in the treatment of hyperlipidemia, especially in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia, dyslipidemia, and in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years.
