Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
The recommended dose of this medication is 1 tablet once daily, taken with water regardless of meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day (for example, in the morning). For patients with kidney impairment, dosage adjustment is unnecessary for mild to moderate cases, but patients with severe impairment should start at a lower dose and gradually increase. For liver impairment patients, the daily dose of telmisartan should not exceed 40 mg. Elderly patients should follow standard amlodipine dosing, but caution is warranted in dosage increments. (Refer to ‘3. Caution for certain patients’ section). For those aged 75 and older, the clearance of amlodipine decreases, so treatment should start with a lower dosage, gradually increasing.
Child dose
Safety and efficacy have not been established for pediatric patients under 18 years of age; therefore, administration is not recommended.

Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

This medication is used as a combination therapy when blood pressure control with amlodipine or telmisartan alone is insufficient in patients with essential hypertension. It helps effectively lower blood pressure, thus improving blood pressure control compared to monotherapy, facilitating better management of hypertension. Proper management of hypertension can reduce the risk of serious complications such as heart disease and stroke. Therefore, this combination of medications is used to enhance blood pressure control in essential hypertension.

How to take

Precautions

This medication can pose serious risks to the fetus if used during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; thus, it should not be taken by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. This medication should not be administered to individuals who are allergic to the active ingredients or similar substances, have severe liver impairment, low blood pressure, heart problems, or certain kidney diseases. Patients with liver or gastrointestinal diseases, heart valve disorders, kidney impairments, elderly patients, and others should exercise caution when using this medication, and it is particularly important to regularly monitor kidney function and blood pressure. During treatment, common side effects such as dizziness or edema may occur, and serious side effects may rarely appear; therefore, any severe or unusual symptoms should prompt immediate consultation with medical personnel. Due to its blood pressure-lowering effects, symptoms of hypotension may occur, particularly in cases of fluid or salt depletion; thus, caution is essential, and if symptoms arise, the patient should be laid down and IV fluids provided as necessary. This medication can increase potassium levels, so it is important to closely monitor blood potassium levels when taken alongside potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications. Patients with heart diseases or diabetes should have their heart condition evaluated before starting this medication and require regular monitoring during treatment. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery due to potential dizziness or drowsiness. Interactions with other medications may occur, so it is essential to inform medical personnel about any other medications being taken, especially when used alongside certain antibiotics, heart medications, diuretics, and analgesics. In case of overdose, severe hypotension or heart problems may arise, so it is crucial to adhere to the prescribed dosage and seek emergency treatment immediately in the event of overdose.
