This medication is used for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is also effective for the prevention of reflux esophagitis and postoperative ulcers. It assists in treating ulcers of the stomach and duodenum caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is used to prevent Mendelson's syndrome when administered prior to anesthesia. This medication protects the gastric mucosa and regulates gastric acid secretion, contributing to symptom improvement. Overall, it is used for the treatment of various gastric-related diseases.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis or with impaired kidney function. It should also not be administered to patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its components. Patients with a history of acute porphyria should avoid this medication as it may worsen symptoms. It is also not recommended for patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, premature infants and newborns, and patients on a diet restricting potassium intake. Patients with impaired liver function or a history of drug allergies, elderly patients, and those with a history of renal disease should use this medication with caution. If taken in conjunction with NSAIDs, elderly patients or those with a history of peptic ulcers require regular monitoring. This medication can mask symptoms of gastric cancer, so patients with gastric ulcers or those over middle age experiencing new dyspeptic symptoms should ensure that it is not a malignant condition before administration. Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric or duodenal ulcers should undergo bacterial eradication therapy. Caution is required for severely ill ICU patients, those with hypophosphatemia, and patients with swallowing difficulties. Rarely, serious allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock may occur during this medication, so if symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately and medical personnel notified. Discontinue medication if hypersensitivity reactions, such as skin rash, urticaria, angioedema, fever, or difficulty breathing occur. Blood tests may show leukopenia or thrombocytopenia, so if symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, or fever arise, testing should be conducted. If symptoms of liver dysfunction such as jaundice or fatigue occur, administration should be halted immediately. Cardiac arrhythmia has been rarely reported, so careful observation is needed for any unusual symptoms. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Neuropsychiatric symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and seizures may also appear, so renal-impaired patients should be particularly cautious. Rarely reported symptoms include breast-related symptoms, myalgia, skin rash, and hair loss. If there is no therapeutic effect without long-term medication use, switch to other drugs, and conduct regular blood, liver, and kidney function tests during treatment. Caution is needed as the risk of pneumonia may increase in elderly patients or those with chronic lung disease or diabetes. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs after taking this medication, avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if you are taking any other medications, inform medical personnel, especially when combined with anticoagulants or certain antibiotics and anticonvulsants. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication, and safety for children has not been established, so it is best not to administer it. In case of overdose, treatments such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and in severe cases, blood dialysis can be performed. This medication reduces gastric acid secretion and may promote bacterial growth in the stomach, thus requiring additional care, including ophthalmological examinations during long-term use.
