This medication is used in patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended adult dosage is 80 mg of Valsartan/12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide once daily, taken with a small amount of water regardless of meals. Valsartan 160 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg is used when prescribed for blood pressure lowering. For patients with renal impairment, dose adjustment is not necessary for mild to moderate cases. In patients with liver impairment, mild to moderate without cholestasis, it should not exceed 80 mg of Valsartan per day.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus when taken during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters, so it must be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients allergic to the ingredients of this medication or sulfonamide drugs, or with severe liver or kidney impairment should not take it. Additionally, patients with diabetes, moderate to severe renal impairment, and those with a history of hereditary angioedema should not use this medication. Patients with electrolyte imbalances, fluid depletion, or renal or liver dysfunction should take this medication cautiously, especially elderly patients or those with heart failure. This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. If symptoms of hypotension occur, medical attention should be sought immediately. Potassium supplements or potassium-containing foods should not be taken without consulting a physician, and regular blood tests should be conducted to monitor kidney and electrolyte status, as kidney function may deteriorate. This medication may interact with other drugs, so consultation with a physician is necessary, especially when taken with lithium, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), potassium-sparing diuretics, and diabetes medications. There may be an increased risk of skin cancer, so exposure to sunlight should be limited, and any skin changes should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, electrolyte abnormalities, and muscle cramps may occur, requiring immediate emergency care. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with fever, blisters, peeling skin, pain in the mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities with cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), profound malaise, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, urinary issues.
