Summary

Main use
Treatment of gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastritis
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
Typically administered orally, 2 tablets twice a day, regardless of meals, in the morning and before bed. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers Administer 2 tablets twice a day or 4 tablets once a day before bedtime. In particular, for patients with duodenal ulcers, administering 4 tablets twice a day in the morning and before bedtime can lead to a higher treatment success rate. Used for ulcers due to NSAID administration or in combination therapy to prevent gastric and duodenal ulcer occurrence due to long-term NSAID use Dosage is the same. Normally, diseases caused by NSAID administration heal within 8 weeks, although the healing period may sometimes be extended based on the patient. For recurrent ulcer patients who have been effectively treated with the short-term usage of this drug, a maintenance dose of 2 tablets once a day before bedtime is recommended. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease Administer 2 tablets twice a day for 8 weeks or 4 tablets once a day before bedtime. However, for patients with severe gastroesophageal reflux disease, the dose can be increased to 4 tablets four times a day. 3) Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Start treatment at an initial dose of 2 tablets three times a day, which can be increased as necessary. In severe cases, the doctor may direct a total daily dose of up to 6 grams of ranitidine. 4) Peptic ulcer, acute stress ulcer, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to acute mucosal lesions Once oral administration is possible, switch from injection to oral administration of 2 tablets twice a day. 5) Pre-anesthetic medication (prevention of Mendelson's syndrome) Administer 2 tablets two hours before induction of anesthesia. In this case, administering 2 tablets the night before surgery is also beneficial.

This medication is used in the treatment of ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also administered to prevent Mendelson's syndrome prior to anesthesia and is effective in preventing ulcers after surgery. It is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This drug helps improve symptoms by protecting the gastric mucosa and regulating acid secretion. It is widely used to effectively manage the gastric health of patients.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis or those with impaired kidney function. Moreover, it should not be administered to patients with a history of allergy to this drug or its components, patients with acute porphyria, those who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, premature infants, newborns, and patients who need to restrict potassium intake. Patients with liver dysfunction or a history of drug allergies, the elderly, and those who take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs concurrently should use this drug cautiously, especially because it may mask symptoms of gastric cancer. Patients with gastric ulcers or newly manifested indigestion symptoms over middle age should ensure malignancy is ruled out before use. For patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori, efforts to eliminate bacteria are necessary. Caution is also required for severely ill patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit, patients with hypophosphatemia, and patients who have difficulty swallowing. Rarely, serious allergic reactions like anaphylactic shock can occur while using this drug; if unusual symptoms manifest, administration should be stopped immediately, and appropriate treatment should be sought. Various side effects such as skin rash, urticaria, respiratory issues, blood abnormalities, liver dysfunction, cardiac arrhythmias, gastrointestinal symptoms, neurological symptoms, muscle pain, and hair loss may occur, so consultation with medical personnel is advised if such symptoms appear. Long-term use of this drug is not recommended, and symptoms, blood, liver, and kidney function should be monitored periodically during treatment. It is safe to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery if dizziness or drowsiness occurs. Additionally, this drug may interact with other medications; therefore, if other drugs are being taken, patients must inform medical personnel, particularly regarding anticoagulants, some antibiotics, and anticonvulsants. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid using this drug, and its safety and efficacy in children have not been established, thus it is not recommended. In cases of overdose, measures such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and in severe situations, removal via hemodialysis may also be required. Finally, as this drug reduces gastric acid secretion and may promote bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract, caution, including ophthalmological examinations, is necessary for long-term use.
