This medication is effective for patients with essential hypertension and is used to reduce the risk of death from myocardial infarction, stroke, or cardiovascular diseases. It especially helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases in high-risk patients aged 55 years and older who cannot use ACE inhibitors. This medication plays an important role in improving cardiovascular health and lowering risk.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Essential hypertension Administer 40 mg of Telmisartan orally once daily with water, regardless of meals. In some patients, 20 mg once daily may be effective, and if necessary, the dose may be increased to 80 mg once daily. Dose increases show maximum blood pressure-lowering effects 4–8 weeks after starting treatment. 2. Reduction of cardiovascular disease risk Administer this medication as 80 mg once daily orally with water.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn, especially during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients allergic to this medication or its components, pregnant women, nursing mothers, those with severe liver impairment, certain hereditary angioedema, and those with diabetes or moderate to severe renal impairment should not take this medication. Elderly patients or those with high serum potassium levels, liver disease, heart disease, gastrointestinal disease, or renal vascular disease should use this medication cautiously, especially in cases of severe renal impairment. Various side effects may occur during treatment with this medication. Common symptoms include headache, dizziness, cough, dyspepsia, and palpitations, while rare but serious allergic reactions or angioedema, and renal function impairment may occur. Any unusual symptoms should prompt immediate consultation with a doctor. Additionally, this medication lowers blood pressure, which may cause hypotension or fainting. If these symptoms are severe, appropriate measures should be taken. When taken in conjunction with other antihypertensive medications, the blood pressure-lowering effect may be enhanced, and concomitant use with specific medications may increase the risk of renal function deterioration or hyperkalemia. Therefore, it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist of any other medications being taken. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not use this medication, and nursing mothers should also avoid its use. Safety for children has not been established, so it is recommended that children under 18 years old do not take this medication. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, changes in heart rate, dizziness, or renal failure may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to another container. Finally, caution is advised while driving or operating machinery during treatment as dizziness or fainting may occur.
