This medication helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It can particularly lower the risk in adults with risk factors for heart diseases such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and angina, as well as in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in patients with clinical evidence of heart disease and decreases the need for hospitalization due to congestive heart failure and vascular interventions. In the treatment of hyperlipidemia, it is effective in lowering total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol while increasing HDL cholesterol. It is also used to improve cholesterol levels in patients with certain genetic forms of hypercholesterolemia, especially adolescents. Therefore, this medication is used for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and the improvement of hyperlipidemia.
