How it is given

Adult administration

As sodium ceftriaxone, administer 1–2 g (potency) intravenously or intramuscularly once daily. For infections caused by severe illness or moderately susceptible pathogens, the dosage may be increased to 4 g (potency) once daily. For infection prevention before and after surgery, a single dose of 1–2 g (potency) should be administered 30–90 minutes before the procedure. In cases of severe renal impairment, do not exceed 2 g (potency) per day.

Child administration

Neonates (up to 14 days old): Administer 20–50 mg (potency) per kg of body weight once daily, not exceeding 50 mg (potency). Infants and children (15 days to 12 years old): Administer 20–80 mg (potency) per kg of body weight once daily for those weighing less than 50 kg.

Precautions

This drug should not be mixed with calcium-containing solutions or other drugs, and should not be administered simultaneously even with separated injection ports. In particular, it should not be administered to neonates (infants under 28 days of age), as hazardous precipitation can occur when used with calcium-containing solutions, potentially causing critical issues in the lungs or kidneys. Patients with hypersensitivity to this drug or allergies to cephalosporins or penicillins, as well as premature infants or newborns with jaundice, hypoalbuminemia, or acidosis, should not use this drug. When administering, it is important to closely monitor for allergic reactions or side effects related to blood, liver, and kidney function, and to perform necessary tests regularly if needed. If severe allergic reactions, gastrointestinal issues, or neurological symptoms occur, administration should be immediately stopped and appropriate treatment sought. Additionally, this drug can cause symptoms such as dizziness that may affect driving or machine operation, so caution is required. When using this drug in combination with others, careful administration is needed due to possible impacts on renal function, particularly when used with aminoglycoside antibiotics. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should use this drug cautiously, as it may affect the fetus or infant, only when treatment is absolutely necessary. In children, especially neonates and premature infants, avoiding use is safer due to the risk of bilirubin encephalopathy. Older adults may experience side effects more readily due to decreased bodily functions, so dosage and intervals should be adjusted and administered carefully. Finally, regular blood tests and liver and kidney function tests should be conducted during treatment to check for abnormalities.
