This medication is used in patients with acute coronary syndrome, specifically those with unstable angina or non-Q wave myocardial infarction, who have received drug therapy, coronary intervention (including stent placement), or coronary artery bypass grafting. It is also effective in reducing the risk of death, myocardial infarction, and stroke due to cardiovascular complications. Additionally, it is used to decrease the risk of stroke and venous thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation who have more than one vascular risk factor, where the use of vitamin K antagonists is not appropriate and the bleeding risk is low. Therefore, it plays a crucial role in preventing major complications related to cardiovascular diseases. In this regard, it helps improve symptoms and reduce risks by administering clopidogrel and aspirin together according to the patient's condition.

Precautions

This medication works by prolonging the time it takes for blood to clot, thus preventing thrombosis. Therefore, it can take longer for bleeding to stop, and if bleeding is severe or lasts for a prolonged period, you must immediately inform your physician. You should inform your healthcare provider that you are taking this medication before any surgery or when starting new medications. Individuals who have a genetic deficiency in a specific enzyme (CYP2C19) may experience reduced efficacy of this medication, leading to more frequent cardiovascular issues. Additionally, taking it with medications that activate this enzyme may increase the risk of bleeding, so it is advisable not to take them together. People who consume more than three alcoholic drinks daily may have an increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding when taking this medication, and should consult a physician or pharmacist. This medication should not be given to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, blood disorders, severe liver or kidney dysfunction, pregnant women in late pregnancy, breastfeeding women, or patients with certain genetic disorders. Caution is required for patients with gastrointestinal bleeding or bleeding tendencies, and if surgery is planned, it should be discontinued 5-7 days prior to surgery. It should also be used cautiously when combined with other medications that may increase the risk of bleeding, and you must consult healthcare providers in such situations. This medication is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18, and elderly patients may experience adverse reactions more easily, so their conditions should be closely monitored. Overdose may increase the risk of bleeding and can be reversed with platelet transfusion if necessary. While taking this medication, driving or operating machinery is not expected to be affected, but if bleeding symptoms or adverse reactions occur, you must consult healthcare providers immediately.
