Treatment of infections of the respiratory system (pneumonia, bronchitis) and reproductive system (gonorrhea)
This medication is used to treat infections caused by various bacteria. It can effectively improve respiratory infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis, ENT infections, as well as kidney and urinary tract infections. It is also used for gonorrhea and the prevention of infections before and after surgery. It is effective for skin or wound infections, soft tissue infections, and bone and joint infections. It is also helpful in treating gastrointestinal infections such as peritonitis, cholecystitis, and cholangitis. Particularly, it contributes to restoring patient health by treating infections occurring in patients with reduced immune function and meningitis. Overall, this medication is very useful for treating a wide range of bacterial infections.
For adults and children over 12 years old, ceftriaxone is administered as an intravenous or intramuscular injection of 1-2 g (potency) once daily. In case of infections caused by pathogens showing severe disease or moderate susceptibility, the dosage can be increased up to 4 g (potency) once daily. Elderly patients should follow the same dosage instructions as adults without modification. For treating gonorrhea, a single intramuscular injection of 250 mg (potency) is recommended. For the prevention of infections before and after surgery:
In newborns (within 14 days after birth), administer 20-50 mg (potency) per kg of body weight once daily, not exceeding 50 mg (potency). Infants and children (from 15 days to 12 years old) should receive 20 mg (potency) per kg of body weight.
This medication should not be mixed and administered with solutions containing calcium or other drugs. Particularly in newborns, there is a risk of precipitation when calcium encounters this medication, so it should not be administered. Newborns or premature infants who receive this medication may develop precipitation in their lungs and kidneys, leading to fatal problems. Patients allergic to this medication or who have had hypersensitivity reactions to cephalosporins or penicillin antibiotics should avoid its use. Moreover, this medication containing lidocaine should only be used for intramuscular injection and not for intravenous injection. It should also not be administered to premature infants, newborns with bilirubin binding problems, or those receiving calcium-containing solutions. Caution is required in patients with a history of drug allergies or allergic constitution, and in those with severely impaired kidney function. During the administration of this medication, liver and kidney functions, blood status, etc., should be routinely assessed, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported immediately. This medication may cause side effects such as diarrhea, rash, increased liver enzymes, and decreased blood cells, so caution is necessary. If severe allergic reactions or shock symptoms occur, administration should be stopped immediately and emergency treatment should be received. It is important to administer this medication only for the necessary duration to prevent the development of resistant bacteria. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should use this medication with caution and consider its effects on the fetus or newborn. Elderly patients may experience side effects more easily due to declining physical function, so dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted accordingly. This medication can interact with other drugs, so it is necessary to inform medical personnel about any concurrently taken medications. To prevent precipitation during infusion, a different injection port than that used for calcium-containing solutions should be employed, and the infusion rate should be slow. After administration, the patient's condition should be thoroughly observed, and any abnormal symptoms should be promptly communicated to medical staff.
