Treatment of respiratory infections (pneumonia, bronchitis) and reproductive infections (gonorrhea)
This medication is effective against various bacterial infections ranging from respiratory infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis to ENT infections, kidney and urinary tract infections, and reproductive infections like gonorrhea. It is also used to prevent sepsis and infections before and after surgery, as well as aiding in the treatment of bone and joint infections, skin and wound infections, and soft tissue infections. It works well for gastrointestinal infections such as peritonitis, cholecystitis, and cholangitis, and can be used for the prevention and treatment of infections in patients with impaired immune function. It is effective in treating meningitis, making it useful for managing a wide range of bacterial infections. Overall, this medication is used to treat various types of infections and helps in patient recovery.
For adults and children over 12 years old, ceftriaxone is administered as an intravenous or intramuscular injection once daily at 1–2 g (potency). In cases of severe illness or infection caused by moderately sensitive pathogens, the dosage can be increased to 4 g (potency) once daily. Elderly patients do not require dosage changes from the adult regimen. For gonorrhea treatment, a single intramuscular injection of 250 mg (potency) is recommended. For postoperative infections, dosage varies based on the type of surgery.
For newborns (age under 14 days), administer 20–50 mg (potency) per kg body weight once daily, with a maximum of 50 mg (potency) per kg. Infants and children (age 15 days to 12 years) require dosage adjustments according to body weight.
This medication should not be administered together with solutions containing calcium, as dangerous precipitates can form. Especially for newborns less than 28 days old, administering this medication and calcium-containing solutions simultaneously can cause serious side effects, so it should not be used. Patients allergic to this medication or with hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillin antibiotics should not receive this drug. Additionally, due to the risk of brain damage, this drug should not be used in premature infants or newborns with high bilirubin levels. Patients with severe renal impairment, a history of drug allergy, or bronchial asthma should use this medication cautiously. Various side effects may occur, such as injection site pain, rash, diarrhea, and liver function abnormalities, requiring careful monitoring of the patient’s condition during administration. If severe allergic reactions or shock symptoms occur, administration should be stopped immediately and emergency care obtained. This medication may also affect blood test results, so care is needed during testing. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this medication with caution after consulting a physician. In the elderly, the risk of side effects due to decreased renal function is increased, necessitating dosage adjustment and attention. When administering this medication, interactions with other drugs must also be considered, particularly when used with diuretics or aminoglycoside antibiotics, requiring close monitoring of renal function. Care must be taken with the preparation and administration speed of the injection solution, and it must never be administered simultaneously with calcium-containing solutions. Finally, the prepared solution should be used as soon as possible, and the specified conditions must be adhered to during storage.
