Treatment of gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis
This medication is used to treat gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease, and is also effective for conditions caused by excessive gastric acid secretion, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Additionally, it helps prevent Mendelson's syndrome during preoperative anesthesia and postoperative ulcers, and is used for the treatment of ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This drug is widely utilized for the treatment and prevention of various gastric-related diseases.
Generally, take 2 tablets orally twice a day, regardless of meals, in the morning and before bedtime. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcer: Take 2 tablets twice daily or 4 tablets once daily before bedtime. Especially for duodenal ulcer patients, taking 4 tablets twice daily in the morning and before bedtime can achieve a higher treatment rate. This dosage is the same for prophylactic therapy against ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or with long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Generally, diseases caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug administration heal within 8 weeks, but occasionally healing periods may extend depending on the patient. For patients with recurrent ulcers who showed excellent effects with short-term therapy using this drug, maintenance therapy is 2 tablets once daily before bedtime. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 2 tablets, twice a day for 8 weeks, or 4 tablets once daily before bedtime. However, for severe reflux esophagitis patients, the dose may be increased to 4 tablets four times a day. 3) Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: Start treatment with an initial dosage of 2 tablets three times a day, and dosage may be adjusted as needed. In severe cases, under a doctor's guidance, a daily dosage of up to 6 g of ranitidine may be administered. 4) Peptic ulcer, acute stress ulcer, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding due to acute mucosal lesions: Once oral administration is possible, switch from injection to oral intake of 2 tablets twice daily. 5) Pre-anesthetic administration (prevention of Mendelson's syndrome): Administer 2 tablets two hours before anesthesia induction. It is also preferable to administer 2 tablets the night before surgery.
This drug should not be used in patients undergoing hemodialysis or those allergic to its components. It should also be avoided in cases of rare conditions like acute porphyria or renal impairment. Patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, and premature or newborn infants are also advised against using this medication. Patients on a potassium-restricted diet should be cautious. It should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver function, those with a history of drug allergies, the elderly, and patients with previous kidney issues. Periodic checks on gastrointestinal status are particularly necessary for those taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. This drug can mask symptoms of gastric cancer, so patients with gastric ulcers or those over middle age who recently developed indigestion symptoms should be evaluated for malignancy before use. Patients with gastric ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori should receive eradication therapy as well. Severe patients, patients with hypophosphatemia, and those with dysphagia should also be monitored closely while using this drug. Serious allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock may occur rarely, so if any unusual symptoms occur, administration should be stopped immediately, and healthcare personnel should be informed. Symptoms of hypersensitivity such as skin rash, urticaria, bronchospasm, and hypotension may also occur, so caution is advised. Decreased blood cell counts, abnormal liver function, arrhythmias, gastrointestinal symptoms, and neurological issues have been reported, so if any unusual symptoms occur, consultation is advised. If there is no treatment effect without long-term use, it is recommended to change to another medication, and regular blood tests and liver and kidney function tests are necessary. The elderly, patients with chronic lung disease, diabetes, and those with weakened immune systems may have an increased risk of pneumonia, so caution is warranted. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs, it is advised to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. When taking other medications, there may be drug interactions, so it is important to discuss with a doctor or pharmacist, especially when taking certain antibiotics, heart medications, or anticonvulsants, and spacing doses apart may be necessary. It is safest for pregnant or nursing women not to use this drug. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been sufficiently established in children and its use is not recommended. In case of overdose, emergency measures such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and if needed, the drug can be removed via hemodialysis. This drug decreases gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial growth in the stomach, so regular check-ups, including eye examinations, are necessary with long-term use.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
