This medication is effective for gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also used to prevent ulcers after surgery and to treat stomach and duodenal ulcers caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug intake. Additionally, it helps prevent Mendelson syndrome when administered prior to anesthesia. It is used to improve various gastrointestinal-related diseases and symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

Typically administered orally as 2 tablets twice daily, irrespective of meals, in the morning and before bedtime. 1) Stomach and duodenal ulcers Administer 2 tablets twice daily or 4 tablets once daily before bedtime. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease Administer 2 tablets twice daily for 8 weeks or 4 tablets once daily before bedtime. For patients with severe reflux disease, the dosage may be increased to 4 tablets four times daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients undergoing dialysis or those with impaired kidney function. Individuals with allergic reactions to any components of this medication should avoid taking it. This medication should not be administered to patients with a rare condition called acute porphyria, as it may worsen symptoms. It is also safest to avoid this medication for patients who have undergone gastrointestinal surgery, are pregnant or possibly pregnant, as well as for premature infants and newborns. Caution is required for patients on dietary restrictions that limit potassium intake. Patients with poor liver function, a history of drug allergies, the elderly, and those with past kidney issues should use this medication with caution. Patients taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should be regularly monitored, especially the elderly or those with a history of gastric ulcers. This medication may obscure symptoms of stomach cancer, so patients with gastric ulcers or those experiencing recent dyspepsia over the age of 40 should confirm the absence of malignant diseases before administration. Patients with stomach or duodenal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori should undergo treatment to eradicate the bacteria concurrently. Severe patients in intensive care may have a risk of developing gastric stones, so caution is advised. The aluminum component of this medication may hinder absorption by binding with phosphates, thus patients with hypophosphatemia should be careful. Patients who have difficulty swallowing may experience respiratory complications after taking this medication. During the use of this medication, allergic reactions or shock symptoms may occur, so if any symptoms arise, stop administration immediately and inform medical staff. Abnormal symptoms in the blood, liver dysfunction, arrhythmias, digestive problems, and neurological symptoms may rarely occur, so if such symptoms appear, consult medical staff immediately. It is essential not to use this medication for extended periods without breaks, and to undergo regular blood tests and liver/kidney function tests during treatment. Elderly patients or those with chronic diseases may have an increased risk of pneumonia while on this medication, so caution is required. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs after administration, it is advised to avoid driving or operating machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so notify medical staff of any medicines currently being taken. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid this medication. Safety in children has not been established, thus it is not recommended for use in children. In cases of overdose, vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, so follow the doctor's orders closely. This medication reduces stomach acid secretion, which can promote bacterial growth in the stomach, so it is advisable to have ophthalmic examinations during long-term use.
