Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication helps improve blood sugar control by assisting in dietary regulation and exercise therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes who are using Linagliptin and Metformin together.
This medication is administered twice daily with meals. 1. If there is no previous experience of metformin treatment, start with a dose of 2.5/500 mg twice daily, one tablet at a time, with a maximum increase to 2.5/1000 mg twice daily, one tablet at a time. 2. If adequate blood sugar control cannot be achieved with metformin monotherapy, initiate treatment with Linagliptin 2.5 mg twice daily and the existing dosage of metformin.
This medication may cause a rare but serious side effect called lactic acidosis, so it should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function or serious infections, dehydration, or acute cardiac problems. Patients who are allergic to any components of this medication or those with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or diabetic pre-coma should not take this medication. Women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid using this medication, and those planning to become pregnant should consider other treatment options instead of this medication. This medication can affect kidney function, so regular kidney function tests should be performed, and special caution is needed for elderly patients or those with reduced kidney function. Due to the risk of hypoglycemia, blood sugar levels should be closely monitored and dose adjustments may be necessary when taken with insulin or sulfonylureas. Severe skin and pancreatic disorders such as acute pancreatitis and bullous pemphigoid may occur; consult a doctor immediately if abdominal pain or skin abnormalities appear. This medication may lower vitamin B12 levels, so it is important to regularly check for vitamin B12 deficiency during long-term use. Before and after radiological examinations using iodinated contrast agents, this medication should be temporarily discontinued, and kidney function should be re-evaluated before resuming use. Patients undergoing surgery should stop using this medication 48 hours prior to surgery and resume only after confirming that kidney function has returned to normal post-surgery. This medication can interact with other drugs, so inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications being taken, especially those that may affect kidney function. The safety and efficacy in children under 10 years and adolescents aged 10 to 17 years have not been established, so the use of this medication is not recommended in these age groups. Elderly patients are at higher risk for reduced kidney function, so they should start with a low dose and monitor kidney function frequently during use. There are no studies on the effects of this medication on driving or operating machinery, so it is advisable to assess personal condition after taking it and exercise caution.
