This medication is used for various gastrointestinal diseases including gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also administered to prevent Mendelson's syndrome before anesthesia and helps prevent ulcers post-surgery. It is used for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This medication effectively aids in improving a range of gastrointestinal conditions.

How to take

Adult dose

For adults, typically take 2 tablets orally, twice a day, in the morning and before bed, regardless of meals. For gastric and duodenal ulcers, take 2 tablets twice a day or 4 tablets once at bedtime; for patients with duodenal ulcers, 4 tablets can be taken twice a day in the morning and before bed. The same dosage applies for ulcers resulting from NSAID administration or long-term use. Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients undergoing dialysis. Individuals who have had allergic reactions to this drug or any of its components should not use it. Patients with a history of a rare disease called acute porphyria should not be administered this drug as it may worsen symptoms. Patients with impaired kidney function or kidney disorders should not use this drug. Patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery should preferably avoid taking this drug. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this drug. It has not been established as safe for premature infants or newborns, so it is not administered to them. Patients on dietary restrictions that limit potassium intake should not use this drug. Patients with liver dysfunction should use this drug cautiously, and those with a history of drug allergies should also exercise caution. Elderly patients or those with a history of kidney disorders should also be careful when using this drug. If taken in conjunction with NSAIDs, particularly in the elderly or those with a history of peptic ulcers, it is important to have regular check-ups. This medication may mask symptoms of gastric cancer, so gastric ulcer patients or middle-aged patients with newly developed dyspeptic symptoms should confirm they do not have a malignant condition before using it. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection should receive simultaneous treatment to eradicate the bacteria. In severely ill patients in intensive care, there may be a risk of developing a gastric stone, so caution is advised. Patients with hypophosphatemia should be aware that the components of this medication may interfere with phosphate absorption. Patients with swallowing difficulties have reported respiratory complications after administration of this drug, so they should be cautious. During treatment with this drug, there is a rare possibility of experiencing allergic reactions or shock; if symptoms occur, treatment should be stopped immediately and medical attention sought. Blood tests may reveal abnormalities like leukopenia or thrombocytopenia. If there are changes in physical condition, immediate testing is advised. Liver function abnormalities may occur, so if symptoms of hepatitis or jaundice appear, medication should be discontinued immediately. Circulatory system abnormalities such as arrhythmias or vasculitis may occur rarely, so vigilance is needed. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. CNS symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, seizures, and insomnia may occur rarely, so if unusual symptoms appear, consultation with a healthcare provider is necessary. Myalgia or arthralgia, and in rare cases symptoms of muscle damage may occur, so treatment should be stopped if symptoms are severe. Dermatological reactions, such as skin rash or hair loss, have also been reported rarely. It is important to avoid long-term use, and during treatment, regular monitoring of blood, liver, and kidney function is crucial. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs while taking this medication, driving and operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. There may be interactions with other medications, so it is essential to inform your healthcare provider of any other drugs being taken. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and its safety for children has not been established, so its use is not recommended. In case of overdose, emergency treatments like vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, so caution is advised.
