Precautions

This medication may cause stomach irritation, so patients with upper gastrointestinal disorders such as gastritis, esophagitis, or esophageal ulcers should take caution while using it. After taking this medication, inflammation or ulcers may occur in the esophagus, and in rare cases, severe problems such as esophageal obstruction or perforation may occur; if symptoms appear, the patient should cease taking the medication immediately and consult a physician. When taking this medication, it should be taken with a sufficient amount of water, and the patient should avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. Failure to follow the proper administration methods increases the risk of esophageal irritation. Patients with esophageal motility disorders, those who cannot sit or stand upright, patients allergic to this medication or its components, patients with hypocalcemia, severe renal failure, pregnant or nursing women, and individuals with congenital lactose intolerance should not take this medication. While taking this medication, reactions such as abdominal pain, indigestion, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, acid reflux, esophageal ulcers, muscle or joint pain, headaches, dizziness, and skin rashes may occur; any unusual symptoms should be reported to a physician. Especially with long-term use, rare occurrences of stress fractures in bones may arise, so if pain persists, an examination is necessary. This medication is necessary to supplement calcium or vitamin D if they are deficient, and when taking calcium supplements or antacids together, a minimum interval of 30 minutes should be maintained to prevent impediment to absorption of the medication. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication, and the safety and efficacy for children and adolescents under 18 years old have not been established. Elderly patients can also take this medication, but caution is necessary as some elderly may be more sensitive to the drug. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypocalcemia and gastrointestinal disturbances may occur, and vomiting should not be induced; the patient should be kept in an upright position. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and care should be taken to avoid transferring it to another container to prevent accidents or degradation of quality.
