This medication is used in adults to relieve pain caused by peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy is a pain condition caused by nerve damage, which can cause significant discomfort in daily life. This treatment effectively manages neuropathic pain and can improve the patient's quality of life. Therefore, it is used for the treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain in adults.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Administer once daily after the evening meal. The starting dose may be 150 mg per day, and it can be increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day at weekly intervals based on the patient's response and tolerance. This medication should be swallowed whole; do not split, crush, or chew. When discontinuing the medication, it should be done gradually with an interval of at least one week.

Children's dosage

The safety and efficacy in pediatric and adolescent patients under the age of 19 have not been established.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors; therefore, if there is any change in mood or behavior while taking this medication, immediate consultation with medical personnel is required. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication should not take it. Diabetic patients should be careful as dosage adjustments for blood glucose control medications may be necessary due to weight gain. If symptoms of angioedema occur, such as swelling of the face or around the mouth, this medication should be stopped immediately, and medical advice should be sought. Elderly patients may experience symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, or loss of consciousness, hence caution is especially necessary during the initial period of use. Vision blurriness or changes in eyesight may occur, and these symptoms can improve upon discontinuation of the medication. When discontinuing this medication, withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety may appear, so consultation with medical personnel is necessary. Patients with a history of substance abuse may be at higher risk of abuse of this medication, so careful use is required. Patients with impaired kidney function may require dosage adjustments. Patients with severe heart disease should exercise caution when taking this medication. The risk of central nervous system depression may increase when taken with opioid analgesics, thus caution is advised. Patients with weak respiratory function or the elderly may be at risk of severe respiratory depression and may require adjusted dosing. In early pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformations; therefore, women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consult a physician before taking this medication and should use effective contraception. Dizziness and drowsiness may frequently occur while taking this medication, so caution is advised when driving or operating dangerous machinery. Severe skin reactions may rarely occur; thus, if any skin abnormalities appear, take this medication immediately. Stop taking it and inform medical personnel. In case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, confusion, and seizures may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment. Keep out of reach of children and do not transfer to another container for safety. This medication is primarily excreted through the kidneys, and interactions with other drugs are minimal, but caution should be exercised when taken with alcohol or central nervous system depressants. During breastfeeding, this medication may be transmitted through breast milk; consultation with medical personnel regarding whether to continue breastfeeding is required.
