Prevention of osteoporosis and spinal fractures in postmenopausal women
This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is particularly effective in reducing the incidence of spinal fractures. However, sufficient efficacy for non-vertebral fractures has not yet been confirmed. Therefore, it is important to focus on its use for spinal fracture prevention. This medication aids in managing osteoporosis, helping to maintain healthy bones.
Take one tablet once a day, regardless of meals.
This medication is intended solely for postmenopausal women and should not be used by premenopausal women, women who may become pregnant, pregnant or breastfeeding women. This medication may increase the risk of blood clotting problems, such as venous thromboembolism; therefore, individuals with a history of thrombosis or at high risk for thrombosis are advised to avoid taking it. In cases where movement is restricted, such as during recovery from surgery or prolonged bed rest, this medication should be discontinued until full mobility is restored. Additionally, during long-distance travel while on this medication, regular movement is necessary to reduce the risk of thrombosis. Although this medication is known not to stimulate endometrial proliferation, any occurrence of uterine bleeding during use requires immediate evaluation by a healthcare professional. The use of this medication is not recommended for breast cancer patients or those undergoing treatment for breast cancer, nor is it appropriate for use for breast cancer prevention or treatment. Individuals with hypersensitivity, symptoms of endometrial cancer, unexplained uterine bleeding, hypercalcemia, or kidney stones should not take this medication. This medication should be used cautiously in patients with hypertriglyceridemia, kidney impairment, liver impairment, sarcoidosis, restricted movement, or those taking specific medications, and consultation with a physician is necessary. Adverse effects may include facial flushing due to vasodilation, leg cramps, drowsiness, retinal vein thrombosis, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, dry mouth, hives, rashes, itching, and peripheral edema. If symptoms such as decreased vision, blurring, or pain occur, immediate medical attention should be sought. When taking this medication, it is advisable to supplement calcium if calcium intake is insufficient, and additional vitamin D supplementation may be necessary for those at high risk for vitamin D deficiency. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery, as drowsiness or vision disturbances may occur. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment should be symptomatic; care should be taken to be aware of hypercalcemia symptoms due to excessive vitamin D intake. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should be kept in its original container for safety.
