Improvement of hypertension and hypercholesterolemia, reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This drug is used for the treatment of hypertension by combining amlodipine and losartan while administering rosuvastatin to manage patients with hyperlipidemia. The amlodipine and losartan combination is used in essential hypertensive patients or stage 2 hypertensive patients who do not have sufficient blood pressure control to reach therapeutic goals. Rosuvastatin is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy for patients with hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia and also helps with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. In addition, it is used to lower total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol to slow the progression of atherosclerosis and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, stroke, myocardial infarction, and the risk after vascular revascularization. This combination therapy improves both hypertension and hyperlipidemia conditions simultaneously.
The amlodipine/losartan combination should be taken by adults as 1 tablet once daily with water, regardless of meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time every day, if possible. The initial dose is 5/50 mg once daily, and if blood pressure is not adequately controlled after 2 weeks, the dose may be increased to 10/50 mg once daily. The initial dose of rosuvastatin is 5 mg once daily for adults, and if necessary, it can be adjusted based on the required LDL-cholesterol reduction.
This medication can have serious effects on the fetus during pregnancy; therefore, if pregnancy is confirmed, it should be discontinued immediately. In particular, one of the components of this medication can affect fetal kidney function, leading to oligohydramnios, pulmonary hypoplasia, skeletal deformities, etc. Patients with severely low blood pressure or low blood volume may exhibit symptoms of hypotension, so their condition should be carefully checked before administration. Patients with allergies to any of the ingredients in this medication or with certain liver and kidney diseases should not take it. It is also necessary to exercise caution in patients with specific genetic metabolic disorders or a history of muscle-related diseases. The elderly or patients with weakened liver and kidney function should take this medication with more caution, and it is advisable to undergo regular blood tests and liver function tests. This medication can cause muscle aches, muscle weakness, and rarely severe muscle damage, so any abnormal symptoms in the muscles must be reported to healthcare providers immediately. When taken with other medications, interactions may occur, increasing the risk of side effects, so current medications must be communicated to healthcare providers. Especially when combined with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements, blood potassium levels may become dangerously elevated, hence attention is required. Women who are pregnant or planning pregnancy should avoid taking this medication and must use adequate contraception methods. If breastfeeding, it is essential to consult with healthcare providers before taking this medication, as the ingredients may be transmitted in breast milk. During the use of this medication, dizziness or symptoms of hypotension may occur; therefore, caution is needed when driving or operating machinery.
