For patients with chronic arterial occlusion where cilostazol monotherapy is insufficiently effective, the combination of cilostazol and Ginkgo biloba extract can assist in the improvement of ischemic symptoms such as ulcers, pain, and cold sensations. Additionally, this combination therapy helps to prevent recurrence following the onset of cerebral infarction. This treatment method is useful for improving blood circulation and alleviating symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered in a combination dosage of 100 mg of cilostazol and 80 mg of Ginkgo leaf extract twice a day. For adults, it is usually taken as one tablet orally two times a day.

Precautions

This medication is a drug that improves blood circulation and inhibits platelet aggregation. Taking this medication can cause the heart to beat faster, which may lead to symptoms such as chest pain and angina; hence, patients should carefully observe for such symptoms. Patients at risk of bleeding or those who have recently experienced hemorrhagic stroke, gastrointestinal bleeding, etc., should refrain from using this medication as it may exacerbate bleeding. Patients with weak heart function, such as those with congestive heart failure, should also avoid taking this medication as it may worsen their symptoms. Individuals who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its components should not take it, and it is also recommended that pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and breastfeeding women refrain from using this medication for safety. Patients with lactose intolerance or certain inherited metabolic disorders should not take this medication. Patients taking other blood coagulation-related medications, menstruating women, patients with severely impaired renal or liver function, and diabetic patients should be particularly cautious when using this medication. Moreover, patients with arrhythmias or specific heart structural abnormalities should be careful when using this medication. This medication can cause serious side effects, including bleeding, decrease in blood cell counts, interstitial pneumonia, symptoms related to the heart, and liver dysfunction; therefore, immediate consultation with a physician is required if any abnormal symptoms occur. Mild side effects may include headaches, indigestion, skin rash, anxiety, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, etc. This medication is metabolized in the liver, meaning it may interact with other medications, especially when taken alongside drugs that increase the risk of bleeding; thus, regular checks of coagulation status are necessary. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, harmful effects on the fetus have been reported in animal tests, therefore it should not be taken, and breastfeeding should be discontinued if already taking the medication. Safety for children or newborns has not been established, so it is advisable not to use it. The elderly may have reduced body functions, thus requiring careful dosage adjustments.
