Efficacy & effects

Improvement of nutrition through the supply of trace elements

View approved original text

By adequately supplying trace elements such as zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, and chromium during intravenous nutrition, this medication maintains the patient's nutritional status in balance and prevents complications associated with deficiencies in essential minerals. These trace elements play crucial roles in bodily metabolism, immune function, and cell regeneration, aiding recovery during the treatment process. Therefore, the provision of trace elements during intravenous nutritional therapy is essential for the overall improvement of the patient's health.

How it is given

Precautions

This medication should not be used in premature infants or newborns due to the risk of severe respiratory problems caused by the ingredient benzyl alcohol. If this medication is injected directly into the vein without dilution, phlebitis may occur, so it must be used diluted. Additionally, since this medication is a hypotonic solution, it should only be used in mixed infusions. If toxic symptoms appear during the use of this medication, administration must be stopped immediately. Special caution is required because aluminum can accumulate and show toxicity in patients with impaired kidney function or in premature infants. The trace elements contained in this medication, such as zinc, copper, manganese, chromium, and selenium, are generally rare in toxicity due to their small doses, but dosage adjustment and monitoring of blood concentration are essential. Patients with renal failure may accumulate zinc, and patients with biliary obstruction are at risk of accumulating copper and manganese. Furthermore, chromium can affect blood sugar control in diabetes patients, so it is crucial to verify the diabetes treatment. The safety of this medication in pregnant women has not been established; therefore, it should be used only when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks for females who are pregnant or may become pregnant. In case of overdose, trace elements such as zinc, copper, chromium, and selenium can cause toxicity, so strict adherence to the prescribed dosage is necessary. Appropriate treatment is required depending on the symptoms in case of overdose. This medication must be used under a doctor's prescription, and when added to parenteral nutrition solutions, it is safe to maintain sterile conditions and work in a laminar flow environment. During storage, it should be kept in a sealed container to prevent contact with air, and the temperature should be maintained in a cool place between 15 degrees and 30 degrees Celsius. This will help maintain the medication's effects and ensure safe use.
