Efficacy & effects

Improves blood pressure control in essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

This medication helps patients with essential hypertension who are insufficiently controlled on either Amlodipine or Telmisartan alone. It effectively lowers blood pressure and contributes to the reduction of cardiovascular risks. Essential hypertension refers to a condition where blood pressure is consistently high without a specific cause, and management is important. This medication is used for additional blood pressure control in such cases, ultimately helping to manage blood pressure reliably and protect heart and vascular health.

How to take

The recommended dose of this medication is 1 tablet once daily, to be taken with water regardless of meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day (e.g., morning). In patients with severe renal impairment, therapy should start at a lower dose and be gradually titrated. In patients with liver impairment, the daily dosage must not exceed 40 milligrams. In elderly patients (75 years or older), treatment should begin at a lower dose and be gradually increased.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus when taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. This medication should not be administered to patients with certain conditions. For example, those who are allergic to this medication, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe liver disease, aortic stenosis, severe hypotension, cardiogenic shock, or unstable heart failure after acute myocardial infarction. Additionally, patients with primary aldosteronism, heart valve disease, liver impairment, gastrointestinal disorders, renal artery hypertension, dialysis patients, and the elderly should use this medication with caution, particularly when combined with other antihypertensive agents. Common side effects when taking this medication include dizziness and peripheral edema; rare but severe adverse reactions, such as fainting, may occur, so patients should consult healthcare providers immediately if they notice unusual symptoms. During pregnancy, starting or continuing this medication is contraindicated, and it should be discontinued as soon as pregnancy is confirmed. Breastfeeding women should also avoid taking this medication. Since this medication lowers blood pressure, hypotension may occur during the initiation of treatment or when adjusting doses; if hypotension symptoms present, the patient should be placed in a supine position and receive intravenous fluids if necessary. Due to the risk of hyperkalemia, patients with impaired renal function or heart failure should regularly monitor potassium levels in their blood, and caution should be taken when taking potassium supplements or foods high in potassium. Patients with diabetes and cardiovascular disease may have an increased risk of myocardial infarction while using this medication; therefore, appropriate diagnosis and treatment are necessary. This medication may cause drowsiness or dizziness, so caution should be taken when driving or operating hazardous machinery. In the event of an overdose, hypotension, tachycardia, or in severe cases, shock may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment and careful monitoring of blood pressure and heart function. This medication is not recommended for children, as safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently established. For the elderly, it is safe to start on a low dose and gradually increase the dose.
