Efficacy & effects

Improvement of nutritional status through supply of trace elements (zinc, copper, etc.)

View approved original text

During the intravenous nutrition supply process, trace elements such as zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, and chromium are supplied together. These trace elements play essential roles in various enzyme functions and metabolism in the body and help maintain a balanced nutritional status. Therefore, they contribute to preventing deficiency of trace nutrients in patients receiving intravenous nutrition and assist in the recovery of bodily functions. Thus, these trace elements must be included during intravenous nutrition supply.

To be used according to doctor’s prescription, confirming plasma trace element levels to guide dosage adjustment. For patients receiving stable non-oral nutritional fluids, zinc 2.5-4mg daily, copper 0.5-1.5mg daily, manganese 0.15-0.8mg daily, chromium 10-15μg daily, selenium 20-40μg daily should be administered. Precautions

This medication should not be administered to premature infants or newborns, as the ingredient benzyl alcohol can cause fatal respiratory issues in premature infants. It should not be injected directly in an undiluted state, and must always be diluted when administered intravenously. This medication is a hypotonic solution and should only be used in mixed injections. If any toxic symptoms arise from any ingredient, administration must be immediately discontinued. Additionally, caution should be taken in patients with renal impairment or premature infants, as there is a risk of accumulated toxicity due to aluminum content. Before administration, the physician must accurately assess the patient's condition and required metabolic amount, frequently testing the concentration of trace elements in the blood to adjust the dosage. Patients with renal or biliary issues need to be cautious, as trace elements such as zinc, copper, manganese, chromium, and selenium contained in this medication could accumulate in the body and cause toxicity. The safety of this medication has not been established in pregnant women or women of childbearing age, so it should only be administered cautiously when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. In cases of overdose, toxic symptoms from zinc, copper, chromium, and selenium may occur, which can be life-threatening in severe cases; thus, overdosing should be avoided and proper treatment sought if necessary. This medication should not be used without a doctor's prescription, and aseptic conditions must be maintained during injection preparation; ensure to check for discoloration or particulates in the solution.
