This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis that may occur in postmenopausal women, and it is also effective in treating osteoporosis in men. It helps prevent bones from becoming weak or fracturing easily due to osteoporosis and improves bone health. It plays a significant role in increasing bone mineral density and reducing the risk of fractures. Therefore, this medication is used to manage osteoporosis and maintain strong bones.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet of this medication by mouth once a week. Since food interferes with the absorption of this medication, take it at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after consuming any food or drink during the day. Take it upright with a sufficient amount of pure water (170-230 mL); do not chew or suck on it. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it.

Precautions

This medication can irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, which may lead to esophageal problems such as esophagitis or esophageal ulcers. If symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, pain behind the sternum, or heartburn occur during use, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Take this medication with a sufficient amount of water (170-230 mL), and do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. Patients with esophageal motility disorders, hypocalcemia, or severe renal impairment should not take this medication. This product contains lactose and should not be used by patients with lactose intolerance. It is advisable not to take this medication with drugs or food containing divalent cations such as calcium or magnesium. This medication may require supplementation if calcium and vitamin D intake is insufficient, particularly in patients receiving long-term steroid therapy. Consult a specialist before dental treatment, as there is a risk of jaw osteonecrosis. Pregnant or nursing women should consult their physician before use, and it is recommended to discontinue use or breastfeeding during treatment. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established; hence, use should be cautious. Elderly patients can use it without special caution, but must be closely monitored for dosing and adverse reactions. In case of overdose, serum calcium and phosphorus levels may decrease; if hypocalcemia symptoms appear, immediate treatment is required.
