How to take

Adult dose

Typically, 1 tablet is orally administered twice daily, irrespective of meals, once in the morning and once before bedtime. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers: Either 1 tablet twice a day or 2 tablets once a day before bedtime. Particularly, for duodenal ulcer patients, taking 2 tablets twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime, increases the treatment rate. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease: 1 tablet twice daily for 8 weeks or 2 tablets once a day before bedtime.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis or those with kidney dysfunction. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its components, a history of acute porphyria, those who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, premature infants, newborns, and patients following diets that restrict potassium intake. Patients with impaired liver function or a history of drug allergies, elderly patients, patients with a history of kidney disease, and patients taking NSAIDs should use this medication cautiously. Particularly, since it may mask symptoms of stomach cancer, patients with gastric ulcers or middle-aged individuals presenting new dyspeptic symptoms should be checked for malignant conditions before treatment. Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection with gastric or duodenal ulcers require eradication therapy, and caution is needed for critically ill patients in intensive care units or those with hypophosphatemia or swallowing difficulties. Rarely, serious allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock may occur during treatment with this medication, so if any unusual symptoms appear, it should be discontinued immediately, and appropriate treatment sought. Skin rash, hives, angioedema, fever, and dyspnea are also rare hypersensitivity reactions, so caution is required. Abnormal blood test results may appear, and if signs of liver dysfunction, arrhythmia, gastrointestinal symptoms, dizziness, drowsiness, or neurological symptoms like confusion appear, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is advised. This medication should not be taken for prolonged periods, and if there is no therapeutic effect, it may be switched to another medication. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs while taking this medication, it is advised to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. There may be interactions with other medications, especially anticoagulants or certain antibiotics and anticonvulsants, so patients should inform their physician or pharmacist. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to use this medication, and its safety in children is not established, thus it is advised not to administer it. In case of overdose, emergency procedures such as inducing vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and in severe cases, blood dialysis may be required. This medication reduces gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial growth in the stomach; therefore, additional monitoring such as ophthalmic examinations is needed for long-term use.
