This medication is used to treat ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, gastritis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also effective for conditions caused by excessive gastric acid secretion, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is applicable for the treatment of ulcers that may occur post-surgery and gastric/duodenal ulcers caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It can also be administered prior to anesthesia to prevent Mendelson's syndrome. This drug helps in the treatment of various gastrointestinal-related diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

Generally taken orally 1 tablet, twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime, regardless of meals. 1) Gastric and duodenal ulcers: 1 tablet twice a day or 2 tablets before bedtime once a day. 2) Gastroesophageal reflux disease: 1 tablet twice a day for eight weeks or 2 tablets once a day before bedtime. Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis or those with impaired renal function. Additionally, patients who have previously experienced allergic reactions to this medication or its ingredients should avoid taking it. Patients with a rare condition known as acute porphyria should be cautious as this medication may exacerbate symptoms. It is safest not to administer this medication to patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, and premature or newborn infants. Patients on a dietary regimen that restricts potassium intake should also avoid taking this medication. Patients with poor liver function or a history of drug allergies, elderly patients, or those who have had prior kidney function issues should use this medication carefully. Regular monitoring is necessary when taken with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs due to the increased risk of gastrointestinal side effects. As this medication can mask symptoms of stomach cancer, patients with gastric ulcers or those over middle age who have newly developed or altered symptoms of indigestion must confirm the malignancy status before treatment. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers affected by Helicobacter pylori must undergo bacterial eradication therapy. Caution is required when administering to severely ill patients in intensive care, those with hypophosphatemia, or those with swallowing difficulties. During the use of this medication, rare but serious allergic reactions, blood abnormalities, liver function abnormalities, heart arrhythmias, gastrointestinal discomfort, and neurological symptoms may occur, requiring immediate consultation with medical personnel upon symptom onset. Do not use for extended periods, and monitor therapy closely while administering the minimal effective dose. Elderly patients or those with chronic pulmonary diseases, diabetes, or weakened immunity should be particularly cautious as the risk of pneumonia may increase. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs while taking this medication, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. There may be drug interactions; thus, especially when co-administered with anticoagulants, antibiotics, or anticonvulsants, notify healthcare providers. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid taking this medication for safety. It is recommended not to use in children as safety and effectiveness have not been adequately established. In the case of overdose, emergency measures such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary; in severe cases, blood dialysis can be used for removal. This medication decreases gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial growth in the stomach, hence, regular check-ups, including ophthalmic examinations, are necessary for long-term use.
