This medication is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet of this medication orally once a week. Because food can interfere with the absorption of this medication, it should be taken at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after any food or drink at any time of the day. Take with a sufficient amount of plain water (170-230 ml) in an upright position. Do not chew or suck on the tablet, and remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking.

Precautions

This medication can irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa and may cause esophageal-related issues such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal erosion. If you experience symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, pain behind the sternum, or heartburn after taking this medication, discontinue use immediately and consult your physician. It is essential to take this medication with a sufficient amount of water (170-230 ml) and to remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking it. Patients with esophageal strictures or achalasia that delay esophageal clearance, patients with hypocalcemia, and patients with severe renal impairment should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not be administered this medication. During treatment, it is important to ensure an adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D, and it is advisable not to take this medication with drugs containing calcium or divalent cations. This medication may cause side effects such as osteonecrosis of the jaw, severe bone, joint, and muscle pain, and, rarely, skin rash or hypersensitivity; any unusual symptoms should be reported to a doctor. If pregnant or breastfeeding, it is recommended to discontinue this medication or breastfeeding. Safety in children has not been established, while elderly patients demonstrate similar safety and efficacy to the general adult population. In case of overdose, hypocalcemia may occur, which may require gastric lavage or calcium supplementation if needed. Store this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer it to another container.
