View approved original text

This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Take 1 tablet orally once a week. Since food can interfere with the absorption of this medication, take it at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after any food intake. To aid in the transportation to the stomach, take with a sufficient amount of plain water (170 to 230ml) while maintaining an upright position. Do not chew or suck the tablet, and avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes after taking it.

Precautions

This medication can irritate the upper gastrointestinal mucosa, increasing the risk of esophageal adverse reactions such as esophagitis, esophageal ulcers, and esophageal erosions. It should be taken with a sufficient amount of water and the patient should remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking the medication. If symptoms of esophageal reactions occur, such as dysphagia, odynophagia, retrosternal pain, or heartburn, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Patients with esophageal stricture or achalasia that delays esophageal transit, hypocalcemia, severe renal impairment, or certain genetic disorders should not take this medication. Patients with calcium or vitamin D deficiency must be treated before administering this medication, and adequate calcium and vitamin D intake is important. Antacids or supplements containing calcium, magnesium, iron, or aluminum may interfere with the absorption of this medication and should not be taken simultaneously. The tablet should be swallowed whole as chewing or sucking can cause oral pharyngeal ulcers. Long-term use may also rarely lead to osteonecrosis of the jaw, atypical femoral fractures, and severe gastrointestinal adverse reactions outside of its osteoporosis treatment effect, so regular evaluations by a physician are necessary. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be avoided or discussed with a physician, and store out of reach of children for safety.
