This medication is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 1 tablet of this medication orally once a week. Take it at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after any food or drink. It should be taken with a sufficient amount of pure water (170-230 mL) while in an upright position, and the tablet should not be chewed or sucked. Remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking the medication.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, potentially leading to issues such as esophagitis or esophageal ulcers. It should be taken with sufficient water after administration and the patient must remain upright for at least 30 minutes afterward. If symptoms such as dysphagia or heartburn occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Patients with gastroesophageal reflux diseases, gastritis, or duodenitis should exercise particular caution. Patients with esophageal strictures, severe renal impairment, or particular genetic metabolic disorders should not take this medication. Adequate intake of calcium or vitamin D is required, and calcium supplementation may be necessary. Medications or foods containing calcium, magnesium, or iron should be spaced apart from this medication to avoid interference with absorption. Rare side effects such as osteonecrosis of the jaw may occur, necessitating good oral hygiene, and dental treatment should be discussed with a physician beforehand. If pregnant or breastfeeding, one must consult a physician before deciding to take this medication. Safety in children has not been established, and elderly patients should adhere to general precautions. In cases of overdose, symptoms of hypocalcemia may appear, warranting immediate medical attention. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and not transferred to another container.
