This medication is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in both postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet of this medication orally once weekly. Since food can interfere with the absorption of this medication, take it at least 30 minutes before breakfast or at least 2 hours before or after any food or drink. To facilitate the tablet's reach to the stomach and reduce the risk of esophageal irritation, take it while in an upright position with a sufficient amount of plain water (170-230 mL).

Precautions

This medication may irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa and cause esophageal problems such as esophagitis or esophageal ulcers. It must be taken with a sufficient amount of water, and the patient should not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking the medication. If any abnormal symptoms in the esophagus occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Patients with esophageal strictures, achalasia, or severe kidney impairment should not take this medication. Those with specific genetic diseases like lactose intolerance should also avoid this medication. Caution should be exercised by individuals allergic to Yellow No. 5 dye. This medication can cause various side effects, including dyspepsia, muscle pain, joint pain, and skin rash. In particular, rare but serious side effects such as osteonecrosis of the jaw can occur in osteoporosis patients, making oral hygiene management crucial. It is important to ensure adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D, and supplements should be taken if necessary. Medications or drinks containing calcium, magnesium, or iron can interfere with the absorption of this medication, so they should not be taken together. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding must consult a physician before taking this medication. Safety in children has not been established, so caution is needed for its use. In cases of overdose, symptoms of hypocalcemia may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/eye mucosa, wheezing or trouble breathing, asthma attack, cough with fever accompanied by respiratory abnormalities, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, vision abnormalities, paralysis, urination issues.
