This medication is used for patients with essential hypertension whose blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled with monotherapy.

How to take

Adult dose

The recommended adult dosage is one tablet of Valsartan 80 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, taken with a small amount of water irrespective of meals. Valsartan 160 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg is applied when prescribed for blood pressure lowering. No dosage adjustment is needed for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. For patients with hepatic impairment, do not exceed 80 mg of Valsartan per day if they have mild to moderate hepatic impairment without cholestasis.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, and it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Patients with allergies to this medication's ingredients or sulfonamide drugs should not use it. It is safer not to administer this medication to patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, or those with specific liver diseases. Caution should be exercised when using this medication in patients with unstable potassium levels or electrolyte disorders, as well as patients with electrolyte imbalances such as hyponatremia or hypokalemia. The hydrochlorothiazide component may react sensitively to sunlight, so precautions such as UV protection and skin care should be taken while taking it. If blood pressure becomes too low or severe side effects occur while taking this medication, seek medical advice immediately. Additionally, this medication may interact with other drugs, so patients should inform healthcare providers of any other drugs they are taking. Safety in pediatric patients has not been established, so it is advisable not to use it in children.
