Improvement of symptoms and urinary flow in benign prostatic hyperplasia, reduction of need for surgery
This medication improves symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia and reduces the size of the enlarged prostate to facilitate urinary flow. It also reduces the frequency of acute urinary retention, alleviating discomfort, and helps decrease the necessity for prostate surgery. Overall, it is used effectively to manage prostate-related issues.
Administer Finasteride 5mg orally once a day, regardless of meals. Treatment for a minimum of 6 months is required even if symptoms improve.
This medication should not be used in children or women. In particular, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid touching broken or crushed tablets, as this medication can affect male fetuses. During the use of this medication, mental health issues such as depression or mood swings may occur; consult a healthcare professional immediately if such symptoms arise. This medication is contraindicated for patients with allergies to this drug or its components, women, children, and patients with certain hereditary lactose-related disorders. Patients with liver dysfunction should exercise caution when using this medication. Generally, this medication has low side effects and is well tolerated, but there may be side effects related to sexual function. Rarely, symptoms such as gynecomastia or rash have also been reported. Long-term use has been associated with a reported potential risk of breast cancer in some patients, necessitating caution with prolonged use. No specific drug interactions have been reported with this medication, and it is generally safe to use with multiple other medications. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, as exposure during pregnancy poses a risk of reproductive abnormalities in male fetuses. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established; therefore, this medication should not be administered to children. Elderly individuals can use this medication without special dosage adjustments. This medication may affect the diagnosis of prostate cancer, so regular testing is necessary, and PSA levels may decrease, requiring caution in the interpretation of test results. No specific treatment is available for overdose; however, it is important to adhere to the recommended dosage. Store out of reach of children and do not transfer the medication to another container for safety.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema, severe allergic reactions, rash, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, severe skin adverse reactions, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath or breathing difficulties, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities with coughing and fever, liver abnormalities (jaundice), sudden and very severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, significantly reduced urine output
