This medication is used for painful muscular spasms associated with musculoskeletal disorders, such as symptoms of shoulder-arm syndrome, adhesive capsulitis, and low back pain. It is also utilized in the treatment of spastic paralysis caused by neurological disorders. This includes a variety of central nervous system diseases, including cerebrovascular disorders, spastic spinal paralysis, cervical spondylosis, sequelae after surgery for brain or spinal tumors, spinal cord injuries and trauma after head injuries, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cerebral palsy, spinocerebellar degeneration, spinal vascular disorders, subacute myelitis, etc. This medication is effective in alleviating pain and improving muscle stiffness and helps improve patients' ability to perform daily activities. Using this medication for treating musculoskeletal and neurological disorders can be expected to have positive results in symptom relief.

How to take

Adult dose

For adults: 50 mg of eperisone hydrochloride should be taken orally three times a day after meals. Dose can be adjusted according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. First, individuals who have had an allergic reaction to this medication should not take it. Additionally, this medication should not be used in patients with myasthenia gravis who have very weak muscles. This medication contains lactose, so people with genetic disorders who cannot digest lactose should also avoid it. Some patients should use this medication with caution. Those with a history of drug allergies should be administered this medication carefully. Patients with liver dysfunction should exercise caution as liver function may deteriorate further. Rarely, a severe allergic reaction referred to as shock may occur; if symptoms arise, the medication should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment should be sought. Liver function test values may rise, so if unusual symptoms occur, the medication should be discontinued, and consultation with a doctor is necessary. It may also affect kidney function, so caution is needed if there is proteinuria or abnormal blood test results. Blood abnormalities, such as anemia, may also rarely occur, requiring observation. Skin rashes or itching may occur, and psychological symptoms such as insomnia, drowsiness, headache, and paresthesia may manifest. Gastrointestinal symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Urological symptoms can include difficulty urinating or a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying. Systemic symptoms such as lethargy, dizziness, and decreased muscle tension may occur. Redness of the face or excessive sweating may also be noted. Severe skin reactions, such as toxic epidermal necrolysis or Stevens-Johnson syndrome, may occur; if fever, skin rashes, blisters, itching, eye congestion, or oral inflammation occur, the medication should be stopped immediately and the patient should go to the hospital. Drowsiness or decreased concentration may occur while taking this medication, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. Caution is necessary if this medication is used together with similar medications as visual disturbances can occur. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should take this medication only when the benefits of treatment are deemed greater than the risks. Breastfeeding women should avoid this medication if possible, and if it must be taken, it is advisable to stop breastfeeding. Safety in children has not been sufficiently established, so caution is needed when using it in this population. Elderly patients may experience diminished physical function, so they should use this medication carefully, such as by reducing the dosage.
