This drug is effective against various bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Shigella, and Salmonella, and is used for several respiratory infections excluding acute bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia. It is also effective for infections of the ear, nose, and throat, bacterial prostatitis, acute urinary tract infections, gonococcal cervicitis and urethritis, gastrointestinal infections, and more. It is used to treat infections in various areas including skin and soft tissues, bone and joint infections, gynecological infections, and peritonitis. However, as a fluoroquinolone, there is a possibility of serious side effects, so it should only be used when there are no other treatment options for acute bacterial sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, simple urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media. Overall, it is a widely used antibiotic that helps improve infections.

Precautions

This drug may cause serious side effects such as tendonitis, tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system abnormalities; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately if any of these symptoms occur. Patients with myasthenia gravis should avoid using this drug, as symptoms may worsen. This medication should only be used for specific infections such as acute bacterial sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media when there are no other treatment options available. Elderly patients, patients with decreased renal function, and those taking corticosteroids should be cautious of an increased risk of tendon rupture and should avoid concomitant use with corticosteroids. This drug can increase the risk of seizures and affect the central nervous system, so it should be used carefully in patients with a history of epilepsy or seizures. Individuals with a history of hypersensitivity, pregnant or breastfeeding women, children or adolescents under 18 years of age, and patients with epilepsy should avoid taking this medication. This medicine can interact with several drugs, so if you are taking other medications, be sure to consult a doctor or pharmacist. During treatment, avoid strong sunlight or ultraviolet exposure, and if you experience skin rashes or itching, discontinue use immediately. Diabetes patients who require blood sugar control should carefully monitor blood sugar changes while taking this drug. As this drug may affect kidney function, patients with renal impairment need dosage adjustment and regular monitoring. If symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal pain, or blood in stools occur after taking this drug, it may indicate serious side effects such as colitis, and medical consultation should be sought immediately. This medication requires caution when driving or operating machinery, particularly when taken with alcohol. In case of an overdose, appropriate emergency measures should be taken to prevent renal toxicity; in some cases, hemodialysis may be beneficial. The safety of this drug has not been established in children or adolescents in growth phases; hence, it is not to be administered to them. When storing, keep it in a sealed container to avoid air and moisture, and store it out of reach of children.
