Efficacy & effects

Therapeutic effects for acute and chronic renal failure and detoxification through blood dialysis solution preparation

View approved original text

This medication is used in the preparation of bicarbonate dialysis solutions for patients undergoing hemodialysis due to acute and chronic renal failure. It is also used for patients poisoned with toxic substances receiving detoxification treatment through hemodialysis. Therefore, it plays a crucial role in treating renal failure patients and aiding in the removal of toxic substances.

How it is given

Adult administration

1. When using the prescribed acetate-containing dialysis solution (solution A), this preparation can create approximately 180L of bicarbonate-type hemodialysis solution containing 38 mEq/L of HCO3-. 2. Solution A 1 : (this medication + purified water) in a dilution ratio of 34 is used for hemodialysis using a bicarbonate dialysis supply device. 3. Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with significantly low blood pressure or rapid pulse. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with pulmonary edema or abnormal electrocardiogram findings, high serum potassium levels, or abnormalities in blood coagulation. Caution is required for patients with severe liver impairment or specific metabolic disorders due to severe diabetes. Patients taking digitalis preparations should be aware that this medication can lower serum potassium levels. Caution is also necessary for patients with elevated serum calcium and phosphorus levels prior to dialysis, as this medication may cause calcification. Patients with insufficient caloric intake or those with diabetes who have dietary restrictions or use hypoglycemic agents should be cautious about the risk of hypoglycemia. This medication may cause side effects such as hypoglycemia, hypercalcemia, calcium metabolism disorders, and dialysis disequilibrium syndrome. If these symptoms occur, it is important to consult medical staff immediately for proper treatment. Hypotension or shock symptoms may manifest during dialysis, so the condition should be closely monitored, and dialysis should be discontinued or adjusted if necessary. Primarily used in chronic renal failure patients for hemodialysis, it is utilized when metabolic acidosis cannot be corrected with high acetate concentration dialysis solutions. This medication does not contain glucose, making it suitable for patients with carbohydrate metabolism disorders, but regular checks of electrolytes and acid-base balance through blood tests are recommended. Pregnant women or women of childbearing potential should have their use of this medication carefully evaluated, as safety has not been sufficiently established. The safety for children has not been established; therefore, caution is required for its use. Elderly individuals may have an increased risk of skeletal complications with this medication, so regular examinations and administration of vitamin D3 preparations if necessary are recommended. Only strictly purified water should be used for dialysis dilution, and caution should be observed against the risk of dialysis membrane damage or bleeding. This medication should not be used alone and prepared with the designated diluent; serious side effects may occur if the concentration is incorrect. The electrolyte concentration and pH of the dialysis solution must be confirmed before use, and the mixed dialysis solution should be used promptly. It should not be used for injection or peritoneal dialysis, and it is advisable to maintain the temperature to body temperature during use.
