This drug is effective for various gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also used to prevent ulcers after surgery and to prevent Mendelson's syndrome prior to anesthesia. It helps treat gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This drug is used to reduce gastric acid secretion, protect the gastric mucosa, and improve symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

Typically administered orally as 1 tablet twice a day regardless of meals, taking it in the morning and before bedtime. 1) For gastric and duodenal ulcers: 1 tablet twice daily or 2 tablets once daily before bedtime. 2) For gastroesophageal reflux disease: 1 tablet twice daily for 8 weeks or 2 tablets once daily before bedtime. 3) For Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: Start with an initial dosage of 1 tablet 3 times per day.

Precautions

This drug should not be used by patients undergoing dialysis or those with poor kidney function. Patients who have had an allergic reaction to this drug or its components, those with a history of acute porphyria, patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, premature infants and newborns, and patients who need to limit potassium intake should not be given this drug. Patients with poor liver function, a pharmaceutical allergy, the elderly, those with a history of kidney problems, and patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should use this drug with caution. Especially since it can mask symptoms of gastric cancer, gastric ulcer patients or middle-aged patients who recently present new dyspeptic symptoms should use this drug after confirming the malignancy. Patients with gastric and duodenal ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori infection require bacterial eradication therapy, and special caution should be taken with critically ill patients or those with hypophosphatemia and dysphagia. Rarely, allergic reactions or shock, skin rashes, blood abnormalities, liver dysfunction, cardiac arrhythmias, digestive symptoms, neurological symptoms, musculoskeletal pain, hair loss, etc., may occur while using this drug. If these symptoms appear, inform medical personnel immediately and discontinue use. Do not use continuously for long periods and observe the treatment progress, using the minimal effective dose. Especially in elderly patients or those with chronic lung disease, diabetes, or weakened immune systems, the risk of pneumonia may increase, so caution should be exercised. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs after taking this drug, avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. This drug may interact with other medications, so if you are taking any other drugs, be sure to inform your healthcare provider. Particular caution is needed when used in combination with certain anticoagulants, antibiotics, and anticonvulsants, as they may affect the effectiveness or side effects of the medication. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised not to use this drug, and safety in children has not been established, so its use is generally not recommended. In the event of an overdose, emergency treatments such as vomiting or gastric lavage should be performed, and if necessary, blood dialysis may be used to eliminate the drug. This drug reduces gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial growth in the stomach; therefore, regular check-ups, including ocular examinations, are needed with long-term use.
