Precautions

This medicine consists of sitagliptin and metformin, and is used for diabetes treatment. Firstly, serious allergic reactions may occur with this medicine, so if symptoms such as rash, hives, or swelling of the face or neck appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Additionally, there is a risk of pancreatitis, so if abdominal pain, vomiting, or nausea occur after taking the medication, notify medical personnel immediately. Metformin contained in this medicine may cause a rare but fatal metabolic disorder called lactic acidosis, so if symptoms such as shortness of breath, muscle pain, fatigue, or abdominal pain occur, stop taking the medicine immediately and go to the hospital. Patients with impaired kidney function or specific health conditions such as dehydration, severe infections, or heart failure should not take this medicine, and it should be temporarily discontinued before and after tests involving iodine contrast agents. It is safest not to use this medicine in pregnant or breastfeeding women, or in children under 18 years of age. While taking this medicine, hypoglycemia may occur, so caution is needed during irregular meals or intense exercise, and special care is required when taking it alongside other hypoglycemic agents. Moreover, liver and kidney functions should be regularly tested to check for abnormalities, and monitoring through blood tests is advisable since vitamin B12 deficiency may occur. Excessive alcohol consumption can increase the risk of side effects from this medicine, so it should be avoided, and if surgery is scheduled, use should be discontinued 48 hours prior and restarted only after confirming normal kidney function post-surgery.
