This medication is used to treat digestive diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also administered to prevent Mendelson's syndrome before anesthesia, and is effective in preventing ulcers post-surgery. It helps treat gastric and duodenal ulcers that may occur when taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This medication is used to improve these various digestive-related conditions.

How to take

Adult dose

Usually administered orally as 2 tablets twice daily regardless of meals, in the morning and before bedtime. 1) For gastric and duodenal ulcers: 2 tablets twice daily or 4 tablets once daily before bedtime. For patients with duodenal ulcers, 4 tablets should be given twice daily in the morning and before bedtime. 2) For gastroesophageal reflux disease: 2 tablets twice daily for 8 weeks or 4 tablets once daily before bedtime.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients undergoing dialysis. Those with allergies to this drug or its components should not take it. Patients with a history of acute porphyria should not be administered this drug, as it may precipitate seizures. Patients with impaired kidney function should avoid this medication. Caution is advised for patients who have undergone upper gastrointestinal surgery. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this drug. It is preferable not to administer this medication to premature infants or newborns. Patients on a potassium-restricted diet should also avoid this drug. Patients with liver function problems should use this medication cautiously, as well as those with a history of drug allergies. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function should take this drug carefully. Elderly patients taking NSAIDs or with a history of peptic ulcers require regular check-ups. This medication may mask symptoms of gastric cancer, therefore, patients with gastric ulcers or middle-aged patients with newly appearing dyspeptic symptoms should confirm malignancy before taking this drug. Patients with positive Helicobacter pylori gastric and duodenal ulcers require eradication therapy. Caution is warranted for critically ill patients due to the risk of stomach stone formation. Hypophosphatemic patients should be cautious as the aluminum component of this drug may hinder phosphate absorption. Patients with swallowing difficulties are at risk for respiratory complications. Rarely, severe allergic reactions or shock may occur during the use of this drug; if symptoms appear, discontinue use immediately and consult healthcare professionals. Skin rashes, hives, fever, or difficulty breathing may indicate hypersensitivity, and if such symptoms occur, use should be discontinued. Abnormal blood test results may occur, so if symptoms such as fatigue, bleeding, or fever appear, report to a physician immediately. Hepatic dysfunction symptoms may arise, so discontinue use if jaundice or fatigue is present. Rare cases of cardiovascular adverse reactions such as arrhythmias or vasculitis have been reported, thus caution is required. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and stool color changes, but generally do not require treatment. This medication may affect the central nervous system, potentially causing dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, or convulsions, so if abnormal symptoms appear, use should be discontinued. Rare cases of muscle pain or joint pain may occur, and if severe, consult a physician immediately. Rarely reported symptoms such as skin rashes or alopecia should be reported to healthcare professionals.
