The dosage of this medication should be determined considering the current treatment regimen, effectiveness, and tolerance of each patient, and should not exceed 100 mg of sitagliptin and 2000 mg of metformin. Precautions

This medication consists of two ingredients, sitagliptin and metformin, primarily used for blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. First, this medication may cause allergic reactions; therefore, if symptoms such as skin rash, hives, or difficulty breathing occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately and medical attention should be sought. Additionally, this medication may rarely cause a severe side effect known as pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas. If symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occur, a hospital visit is necessary. The metformin component in this medication can cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, so it should not be administered to patients with severe dehydration, heart problems, or impaired kidney function, and treatment should be stopped immediately if symptoms are suspected, consulting healthcare providers. Particularly, it is safest for patients with moderate to severe impairment of kidney function, heart failure, or those experiencing severe infections or dehydration not to take this medication. This medication should not be administered to pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, or breastfeeding individuals, as its safety has not been established in these populations. Regular kidney function and blood tests should be performed during the use of this medication, and since there is a risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, checking vitamin levels is recommended if necessary. Additionally, this medication may cause hypoglycemia, so patients should avoid skipping meals, engaging in vigorous exercise, or consuming excessive alcohol, and should be cautious of hypoglycemic symptoms when taking it with other antidiabetic agents. If undergoing surgery or radiologic procedures involving contrast agents, the medication should be paused for a period before and after the procedure, and it should be resumed only after normal kidney function has been confirmed. Finally, if symptoms such as blisters on the skin or severe joint or muscle pain occur during the use of this medication, the physician should be notified immediately, and discontinuation may be necessary if symptoms are severe.
